Genetically Engineered Amphibian

Amphibious Physiological Adaptation: Coral’s body is specially developed for underwater conditions, granting her specialized blood circulation to withstand freezing temperatures and highly developed vision to see clearly even in murky ocean depths. She can breathe indefinitely underwater due to having gills located behind her ears, and possesses lungs to breathe on land indefinitely as well. She can swim at speeds greater than 60 miles per hour, and has shown she can reach a speed of over 75 knots.

Superhuman Strength: Coral possesses a low degree of superhuman physical strength. This heightens upon her physical contact with water and diminishes slowly the longer she is out of contact with it.

Superhuman Stamina: Coral possesses stamina greater than the finest human athlete and can physically exert herself for hours before impairment.

Superhuman Agility: Coral’s agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels that are far beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete.

Aquatic Healing: If injured, Coral can heal damaged tissue much faster while immersed in water.

Animal Mimicry (Aquatic Life): Coral possesses similar characteristics to a number of undersea creatures. These include:

Sonar: She possesses a natural form of sonar.

Lateral Lines: Coral can detect subtle movement or vibrations around her, particularly underwater.

Venom Strike: Coral discharge venom from the pores of her skin, causing temporarily paralysis in her opponents. This ability cannot be used indefinately and must be biologically recharged over time.

Bio-electric Shock: Special muscles under her skin allow Coral to deliver power electric shocks upon contact or fire bursts of electricity over a short distance.

Camouflage: Coral can alter her skin colour and appearance, enabling her to copy the pattern of any surface she stands against.

Child Prodigy: Coral has been raised by several of the worlds most brilliant minds, and shows considerable expertise in a number of fields, including science, philosophy, theology, and history. She is an excellent cook and plays the violin to a world-class standard.

Martial Artist: Coral is an expert in hand-to-hand combat, but for the most part has only ever used her skills as a form of exercise.

High-technology swimwear: Coral wears a unique costume composed of composite fabrics that reduce drag against the water, and has the additional effect of protecting parts of her body from harm. It uses unstable molecules to bond with her skin, enabling it to mimic her camouflaging abilities. When underwater, it reproduces the bio-luminescence of many deep sea fish, ensuring visibility and unchallenged assimilation.

Code Name: Coral
Real Name: Coral Winters / Subject 17
Age: 8 / Appears mid-20s
Gender: Female
Height: 5’ 7’’
Place of birth: Oracle Labs, Florida
Power origin: Genetically Engineered Lifeform

Coral is the result of the Neptune Project, an attempt by several of the worlds leading genetics experts to splice together the DNA of different animals to create new hybrid animals for medical use. After a number of groundbreaking successes, the scientists at Oracle Labs decided to use human DNA to create a hybrid that could revolutionize science and medicine. Coral was their first true success, and certainly the most human.

Coral was raised in a stable and nurturing environment, counting some of the most brilliant minds on the planet among her adopted parents. She was given a top-grade education, and taught how to be considerate and tolerant towards others, regardless of their failings. She was her creators hope for the future of humanity, an idealised ‘perfect’ citizen.

As time passed, and Coral matured at an accelerated rate, she sought to be part of the world she had been taught about. Her creators were not sure, fearing that she would be rejected as a freak or unable to deal with the amount of attention her existence would bring. Eventually the very event they feared came to pass – Coral escaped into the waiting world.
